SPORTS MONSTER FLOOR HOCKEY
GYM RATS vs. NICK'S UPTOWN (PLAYOFFS)
Gym Rats 6 • Nick's Uptown 11
CHICAGO, IL – For the second time in his brief, but
illustrious career, Greg "He must be butter, 'cause he's
on a" Rolnick played in a game on his mother's birthday.
And for the second year in a row, his Mom did not receive
a win. But not for lack of effort on Mr. Rolnick's behalf.
Yes, Ladies and Gentleman, it was the beginning of the post-season
and the crowd was riled up and ready to go. In a touch of
bittersweet irony, the Gym Rats were not.
Rolnick started the game on a positive note, scoring the first
two goals of the match (his first on a brilliant backhander
through traffic). But Nick's Uptown rallied back and quickly
tied the match at two a piece. Even with a more aggressive
style of play, the Gym Rats could not entirely contain the
two dominating offensive players from Nick's Uptown, and at
the half, they were in the hole, 4-2.
The second half, however, was “broodal.”
The good: Rolnick scored another goal and achieved his third
hat trick of the year; the Gym Rats put four goals on the
board in the second half; the Gym Rats season-long befriending
of the referee saves Rolnick from two trips to the box for
high-sticking and spearing (respectively); as opposed to the
last time these two teams met, no one bleeds.
The bad: Nick's Uptown scored seven goals in the second half;
the Gym Rats are knocked out of the playoff picture like the
Thrashers around mid-November.
In a festive, alcohol soaked post-game ceremony, the Gym Rats
handed out their annual season-ending honors. An emotionally
unprepared Rolnick took home the prize for "Most Accurate
Player" (undoubtedly for his ability to peg the crossbar
at will).
And as all good things must come to an end, we close the book
on this season of Gym Rats Hockey. But have no fear dear readers,
because the next season starts in six weeks!
so STAY TUNED!
