HNA TIER 3 FALL/WINTER LEAGUE
LOS PHANTASMOS vs. GRIM REAPERS
Los Phantasmos 6– Grim Reapers 3
BENSENVILLE, IL – Los Phantasmos final game of the regular
season was a seemingly meaningless rematch with the Grim Reapers.
Meaningless? Well, as either team was guaranteed to finish
second or third in the standings, the two squads will definitely
face each other in round one of the playoffs on April 11.
Void of proper motivation, and a full bench, the Grim Reapers
were content to watch Los Phantasmos control the game, consistently
attacking and throwing shots on net. Of course, not all of
the ‘Reapers were content, and tensions started to rise
as the match went along.
Those tensions were brought to the surface by an increasingly
physical style of play, that Los Phantasmos were not shy in
matching bump for bump. Consequently, tempers flared on several
occasions, including some crease-tantrums and stick swinging
from the ‘Reapers beleaguered netminder.
Goals were scored by Ross “Automatic for the People”
Gerbasi, Keith “One Shy of the Trick” Hales (who
had two, including one on the power play), Sean “Zen
Master” Tang, and Josh “Marsh” Tallo (who
posted two of his own). Jeremy “Sleep Away” Campbell
was a force on the ice as well, setting up four Phantasmos
tallies, and wreaking havoc on the blue line.
The ‘Reapers managed to sneak three goals past AJ “That’s
Some F’d Up $#@%” Brandt, but two of those were
scored in the final minute or two, when Los Phantasmos got
caught sitting on a healthy lead, dreaming of the post-season.
The rivalry between these two squads is growing every match,
and the playoffs will surely only help to exacerbate, er,
encourage, that animosity (um, competitive fervor).
GAME NOTES: Los Phantasmos pounded away at the Grim Reapers,
out shooting them 43-18; LP went 1 for 2 on the PP and 1 for
1 on the PK; The team’s 2006-2007 season DVD is coming
together nicely, and just waiting on the outcome of the post-season
before heading out to a store near you. Pre-orders are being
accepted now by team treasurer, Jay “I Still Hate You
All” Smith.
