HNA TIER 3 FALL/WINTER LEAGUE
LOS PHANTASMOS vs. MEATWADS

Los Phantasmos 2 – Meatwads 3

ADDISON, IL – In what may very well be a preview of the championship game, Los Phantasmos battled away with the Meatwads, but couldn’t quite overcome a one-goal deficit.

The Meatwads came out swinging, literally, and outplayed Los Phantasmos during most of the game, utilizing better passing, skating, positioning, a very physical style of play, and one incredibly hot goalie (who made save after highlight save).

While AJ “Ay Caramba” Brandt held his own between the pipes, Los Phantasmos couldn’t create enough offensive opportunities to help him out.

Craig “La Cucaracha” Sonnenschein and Josh “El Chupacabra” Tallo scored Los Phantasmos only goals, while the Meatwads kept star center Ross “Medic!” Gerbasi at bay by treating him like a punching bag. Gerbasi suffered a stick to the neck, a bone-rattling check to the boards behind the Meatwads net, and numerous slashes and hacks.

Los Phantasmos special teams also let them down, going 0 for 7 on the power play, and 4 for 5 on the penalty kill. The lone man-advantage goal was the first the much-vaunted Phantasmos PK unit has given up in a looooooooong time.

While the game was in no way a blowout, Los Phantasmos now have a lot to prove as they head towards the post season and a potential rematch with the Meatwads.

GAME NOTES: Los Phantasmos were out shot by the Meatwads 30-26; Tallo was a one man wrecking crew during the game, scoring his goal on an end-to-end rush, and making numerous impressive defensive plays; Famed hockey writer, Dickie Dunn has been following the team all season and plans on publishing his book, “Ay Dios Mio, Los Phantasmos: A Hockey Tale for the Ages” in the fall of 2007.
