HNA TIER 3 FALL/WINTER LEAGUE
LOS PHANTASMOS vs. HORNETS
Los Phantasmos 5 – Hornets 0
BENSENVILLE, IL – With All-Star center, Ross “Extreme
Close-Up” Gerbasi once again kept off of the scoreboard,
Los Phantasmos put in an outstanding team effort in their
big win over the Hornets. Of course, all the team really needed
to do was score once, as AJ “No More Bees” Brandt
refused to allow any pucks to cross his goal line on the way
to his ninth career shutout.
Not content to be a power between the pipes, Brandt also assisted
on Los Phantasmos first goal (and game winner).
Controlling the puck behind his net, Brandt hit blueliner,
Scott “Fresh Pine Scent” Battle with a breakout
pass. Battle then proceeded to weave his way in and out of
bewildered Hornets, before finally depositing the puck in
the back of the net.
Los Phantasmos doubled their lead in the first period when
winger Keith “Hot Wings” Hales threw a quick pass
through the slot to Dan “Bing Bam Boom” Phillips,
who one-timed it for his second goal of the season.
The second period belonged to Los Phantasmos, who out shot
the Hornets 9-3. They also posted two more goals.
Sean “Sin Bin” Tang tallied his fourth goal of
the season on a sweet unassisted rush, and Greg “There
Was No Kicking Motion” Rolnick let a pass from Josh
“Pinpoint Control” Tallo bounce off of his skate
and into the net.
Los Phantasmos defensive corps had to step up a bit in the
third period, as the Hornets desperately tried to score. However,
Brandt got outstanding support from Tang, Battle, Jeremy “4th
Fret” Campbell, and Jay “Team Treasurer”
Smith.
The final nail in the Hornets coffin was administered in the
final minutes of the game, while Los Phantasmos were on the
power play.
Campbell fed the puck to Craig “Slot King” Sonnenschein,
who drew a defender away from Hales. In an instant, Sonnenschein
hit Hales with a pass, and Hales hit the back of the net with
the puck.
GAME NOTES: Los Phantasmos were 1-3 on the PP and 3-3 on the
PK; Brandt made 24 saves for the shutout; Tang and Hales both
picked up a goal and an assist; Phantasmos amigos, make sure
to tune in this Sunday night for the unauthorized TV biography
of Ross Gerbasi! In addition to learning all about how Gerbasi
was raised by hockey playing pygmies on the outskirts of Detroit,
you’ll discover how he acquired his trademark goatee
and its mystical hockey-enhancing powers. Gripping stuff,
truly.
