this pregnancy is getting a little corny

Well, here we are at Week 24. Let's discuss, shall we?

Prof. Goldblatt has supposedly gained about four ounces since last week, which places her at just over a pound. She's also approximately a foot long, or about the length of an ear of corn. She's still on the skinny side, but she's starting to fill out and get more plump. You can just hear her now, asking, "Does this placenta make me look fat?"

The Professor's brain is growing faster and faster, and her taste buds are continuing to hone their skills. Whether this will manifest in more specific food requests, only Overboard can tell.

Finally, Prof. Goldblatt's lungs are developing branches and her skin is still fairly translucent at this point.

In Overboard news, she went out and purchased a full body pillow the other week to help her sleep. While it is probably effective, I'm sure I'm not helping things by occasionally snuggling up to the pillow and hogging it before Overboard gets into bed at night. My bad.

mr. sneaky at daycare

Kenny's been getting sneakier and sneakier at daycare, as he tries to hide his indiscretions from the folks in charge. The other week he had an accident in his pants and didn't want to fess up to it. So what did he do? He acted like he had to go potty and went to the bathroom by himself. While there, he slipped off his wet underwear and liner and placed them in the trash. He then slipped his pants back on and sauntered out as nonchalantly as possible.

Returning to the waste disposal system, he also placed a pair of slippers in there when he decided he didn't want to wear them. I guess he figures no one looks in the trash can.

Finally, at lunch one day, Kenny decided that he didn't want the meatball part of his spaghetti and meatballs. So what did he do? He waited until the daycare ladies backs were turned and then quickly placed his unwanted meatballs on the plates of the kids around him.

Sneaky, sneaky. It totally reminded me of this.

goldblatt the mango

We're now moving into Week 23, which is apparently the Dance Party week.

According to our trusted source, Professor Goldblatt's sense of movement is developed enough to feel Overboard sway and dance. The trick is to figure out what music makes both Overboard and the good Prof. shake her groove thang.

Goldblatt is currently around 11 inches long and weighs just over a pound. Or, as you may have guessed from our opening illustration, about the size of a large mango. She's moving around a lot more these days, and even letting loose an occasional kick or two. The blood vessels in her lungs are gearing up to start breathing and her hearing is getting more acute. Now's a good time to let Sadie bark away, vaccum a room, have Kenny yell, or do other noisy activities that Goldblatt can get used to.

hey man, it's purim

A few weekends back we took Kenny to a Purim carnival. Mr. Man played some games, ate some candy, and after some serious hesitation, finally discovered the joys of a bounce house. He also discovered the agonizing loss of being told it's time to leave the bounce house. This was an unpopular request. So unpopular that Kenny went absolutely apoplectic and forced everyone into an early exit. But before that happened we got these pix and video:

Kenny tests his ring toss skills at close range.

I don't remember what the game here was, but apparently it was terribly exciting for some of the spectators. Of course, Kenny does have that effect on women.

And here it is...the world premiere event: Kenny in a bounce house!

green eggs and jam

Kenny loves the Dr. Seuss book "Green Eggs and Ham." Loves it. Sometimes when he's reading it with us he gets all excited and starts to quote it at high speed, sounding something like this:

"Wouldyoucouldyouwithafox...wouldyoucouldyouonatrain...wouldyoucouldyouinabox..."

And so on.

In a clever Mommy move, Overboard made Kenny a special meal of Green Eggs and Jam the other night. Why jam? Because this is a kosher house people. And because jam is delicious.

A little green dye goes a long way when it comes to making eggs.

Kenny ponders his next move and what exactly Sam I Am would do.

"I DO like green eggs and jam! I DO like them, Kenny I am."

is that a squash in your belly, or are you just pregnant?

If last week was Week 21, then logic dictates this must be Week 22.*

Professor Goldblatt continues to percolate in Overboard's belly and is now roughly 11 inches, or the size of a spaghetti squash. She probably weighs about a pound, and is starting to look less and less like a giant pink raisin and more like a newborn, as her lips, eyelids and eyebrows become more distinct. She's even got tiny tooth buds beneath her gums, just waiting for the day when she can start teething. Why? Because she already senses how much her parents love screaming infants and drool.

Goldblatt's eyes are formed, but they still lack pigment. I wonder if she'll have blue or green eyes, just to be different, but I suspect she'll conform to our family protocol of brown eyes. But you never know. Goldblatt could be a rebel. Settle down in there, young lady.

In Overboard news, she's generally feeling good and even purchased a full body pillow this weekend to try and help with the whole "sleeping on your side" thing. Unfortunately, Overboard loves to sleep on her belly, so the whole "no belly, no back" rules of pregnancy are a bit rough on her. I hope the pillow pans out for my sake. Somebody can be a real grump when she's not had a good night's rest. Not that I'm naming names or anything.

*This is why I'm in charge. Because I can figure out complex higher math.

grandma and grandpa come to visit*

*about four weeks ago. sorry for the delay.

Okay, I have just been slack about getting things online around here. My apologies. In my defense, work has picked up considerably and, um, I was busy saving damsels in distress from rampaging hordes of impolite Vikings who had descended upon our humble village in search of plunder and deep discounts on bulk quantities of toilet paper. Something like that. I'm kind of tired here.

Speaking of descending upon our Village...Grandma and Grandpa came to visit and we actually took a minimum amount of pictures. I don't want to delve into what that means for our Kenny cataloging skills, but I bet it picks back up again when Goldblatt arrives. Just a theory.

It was a fun visit filled with trips to Pita Inn, Hot Doug's, various other restaurants and the aquarium. Here are the pix we do have (with commentary).

This is how you know Grandpa Toot-Toot is in town.

Kenny and Grandpa in between raucous bouts of the game "Grandpa Monster." This game involves throwing your arms out to your sides and lumbering at one another like a cross between Boris Karloff and an offensive lineman. All the while shouting, "Here comes the Grandpa Monster!" Kenny is pretty good at this game.

Of course, after many rounds of "Grandpa Monster" a nap is in order.

We took everyone to the aquarium on Sunday. Here we see one of many turtles who are known to Kenny as "Crush" (of Finding Nemo fame).

Kenny and Grandma check out a tiny Crush at the turtle tank.

Grandma and Kenny stroll back to the car post-aquarium.

I wasn't kidding, folks, the picture count was pretty low this time around. Until next time, then.

what's up, prof?

So here we are at Week 21.

Professor Goldblatt is currently weighing in at an approximate 3/4 of a pound, and is somewhere in the neighborhood of 10.5 inches long. You know, like a big carrot, but hopefully less orange and without any green leafy items sprouting from her head.

This is around the time that her flutters should start turning into kicks, but Overboard has not reported any violent outbursts from inside her belly just yet. I can only assume that the Prof. is biding her time and waiting for the best possible moment to strike.

Physically, the Professor's eyebrows and eyelids are in place and her vajayjay has begun to form as well. So good for her.

As for Overboard, she's doing pretty well herself. The PUPPP rash that had been driving her nuts has subsided greatly, and is almost gone. This works out well for all parties involved. Overboard isn't being driven crazy by itchiness, and I don't feel threatened every time I ever-so-lovingly encourage her not to scratch.

Finally, Kenny continues to say hello to his baby sister from time to time by speaking into Overboard's belly button. We have even added a baby sister book (or two) to the mix to help him get used to the idea of having a little girl in the house. Sadie, on the other hand, has no idea what is about to happen. Poor kid.
