yes we can

Last night, after Kenny was in bed, Overboard and I sat on the couch and watched history being made. We kept track of the electoral votes on TV, on the Web, and via emails. We discussed what an Obama presidency could mean for us, and most importantly, for Kenny.

My eyes welled with tears, and they're doing it again as I type. Why? For many reasons, but mainly because we believe that our country has turned a great corner and our son will live in a world where an African-American president is no big deal. He'll live in a world where anyone can truly work their way up and achieve the highest office in the land, or whatever dream they set out for themselves. The promise of America was realized last night and now it's up to all of us to help bring real change and hope to fruition. Not just for us, but for those who will inherit the world we give them.

Yes we can. Yes we did.

Here's the text message Overboard received last night at 10:07pm:

Well said. Chris and I watched as Grace was asleep in her crib. We could not help think the same things. Bravo. -Our Woman in L.A.

Ditto the sentiments, with a Little Shoes on the way in May. Born into the world with President Barack Obama....no offense, but I was born with President Nixon, just before he resigned.

What a great step for all of us.
