get up, stand up

In just a few weeks, Kenny has gone from modified commando crawl to full-on, use your knees, "holy crap, look at him go" crawling. Now, when he sees something he wants, he crawls off like a rug rocket to get there. Unfortunately for Sadie, this includes her, and we've started to attempt to introduce Kenny to the concept of "the Sadie free zone" or "Sadie home base." This means that when Sadie is in her bed, she's off limits from investigating, poking, hugging, clutching or grabbing. However, when she's not in her bed, well, all bets are off.

Additionally, Kenny went from standing upright when propped up against something, to pulling himself to a standing position all on his own. This weekend, he's been standing up all over the place. Speaking of which...

I went into his bedroom this morning to check on him, and was met by the sight of Kenny standing in his crib, hanging onto the side rail, a grin on his mug.

Honestly? I was thrilled, amazed, elated and impressed. But mostly I was horrified, as my brain began to realize where this was all leading. Also, as a parent, my first thought was: "Good grief, he's gonna lose his grip, fall backwards, and crack his head on his crib!" You know, as opposed to, "That's my boy! Standing up on his own!"

Oh, to be a parent. That wonderful combination of pride and fear. Good times...
